The Citizen Engagement Forum (CEF) organized a virtual workshop on citizen involvement in the implementation of public procurement agreements in Patuakhali district.

“The more citizens participate in public procurement, the more development will be possible,” said Abu Hena Morshed Zaman, secretary of the Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED) of the Ministry of Planning.

He was speaking as the guest of honor at the workshop held on Thursday, a press release read.

Morshed Zaman added: “Citizens should have the opportunity to speak out. We need to think about how to develop the country through mutual talks. Only then will this movement for development spread across the country with the joint efforts of all. “He said:” This workshop is to discuss the quality of the work. Our aim is to solve the problems by negotiating for the development of the country.

Calling on all stakeholders, including citizens, representatives of local governments and entrepreneurs, to come together under one roof, he said: “This is also arousing interest from the highest level of government. “.

The speakers indicated that the strategy to be formulated by the government for the implementation of citizen involvement in public procurement is not the responsibility of anyone but everyone.

In order to ensure everyone’s participation in public procurement activities and to bring perfection to them, a civic watch team has been set up in the upazilas with the people around the site.

Their responsibility is to monitor the progress of the work and report any irregularities to the responsible local authorities. This group is known as the “Citizen Watch Group”.

Speakers also said that the Central Technical Procurement Unit (CPTU) of the Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division of the Ministry of Planning is working to involve local citizens in the implementation. implementation of public contracts in 48 upazilas of the country in phases as part of the implementation of digitization.
