Here’s a roundup of what local elected officials will be talking about at this week’s town hall meetings.

Springfield City Council

To look at: The city system requires registration to watch and participate in meetings. Use the meeting links to register and get information on how to attend.

To participate: Meetings are held in the Council Chambers of City Hall, located at 225 Fifth St.

Comment: There will be instructions during the meeting to speak in public comments or public hearings.

WORKING SESSION

When: 5:30 p.m. Monday

What: Councilors will receive an update on the city’s community arts program.

They will then receive an update on the governance of the Eugene-Springfield Fire Department.

Council will also hold a third working session on the Main Street facilities plan.

REGULAR MEETING

When: 7 p.m. Monday

What: After the meeting begins, councilors will review a consent schedule with May disbursements, building standards and other items.

The council will also hold four public hearings and then vote on the related resolutions:

• A supplementary budget for the current financial year
• The proposed budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1
• Certification of the city’s eligibility to receive state-shared revenue from cigarette, marijuana, gasoline, and liquor taxes
• The title of the electoral question to renew the police levy

After the public hearings, the board will listen to and respond to comments from the general public.

Council will also consider an amendment to the Presiding Judge’s employment contract and annual action plan for Community Development Block Grant funds.

Councilors will then vote on whether to allow an appeal of the land use rules set to be passed on July 21 by the Land Conservation and Development Commission.

They will also consider an alternative review process for the Main Street Safety Project to allow for a new draft facilities plan to be developed prior to any public hearings.

Eugene City Council

To participate: Board meetings are held at the Mary Spilde Center at 101 W. 10th Ave. There will be a chance to participate in person at the public hearings at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Comment: Where there is a public forum or public hearing, there will be an option to join the meeting for those not attending in person. Callers can also comment. There are instructions given for speaking during the meeting.

PUBLIC HEARINGS

When: 5:30 p.m. Tuesday

What: Councilors will hold public hearings on public procurement rules and proposed protections for tenants.

WORKING SESSION

When: Wednesday noon

What: Councilors will discuss the governance of the Eugene-Springfield Fire Department.

They will also receive an update on the Safe Sleep sites.

Lane County Board of Commissioners

To look at: County meetings are streamed at bit.ly/LaneCounty-meetings.

To participate: Meetings of the Board of Commissioners begin at 9 a.m. at Harris Hall, located at 125 E 8th Ave., unless otherwise specified. Doors to Harris Hall open at 8:45 a.m.

Comment: When there is a chance to comment, people should register for the meeting to do so virtually. After registration, people will receive information on how to attend.

Those coming to the meeting in person should register on the attendance sheet located near the front door.

There will be instructions during the meeting to speak at public hearings and make public comments.

People can also email [email protected] with public comments by noon Monday. The subject line should include “PUBLIC COMMENT FOR MEETING DATE 06/21/2022”.

MORNING SESSION

When: 9:00 a.m. Tuesday

What: Commissioners will listen to and respond to public comments before reviewing the consent schedule.

They will then receive a report from the fatal accident investigation team.

The board will also vote on whether to accept the proposed budget for the fiscal year that begins July 1.

Commissioners will then discuss the possibility of producing a county election pamphlet for all or some elections. It’s set for 10:30 a.m. “certain time”, which means that other items could move on the agenda.

AFTERNOON

When: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday

What: Commissioners will vote to award a contract to HDR Engineering for a sewage feasibility study for Blue River.

They will also discuss community feedback on a proposed parks funding levy, a priority list for parks capital projects, and a proposed funding plan.

The commissioners will then vote on several elements pertaining to health and social services:

• A single-source determination for two projects – one for year-round shelter and the other for emergency shelter in the event of hazardous weather conditions
• Allocation of American Rescue Plan Act funds to youth suicide prevention
• Contracts and amendments, including for hotel lodging operations against wildfires, bridges over Broadway, and emergency rental assistance
• A contract amendment for motel shelter operations and services
• Delegation of authority to the county administrator to sign a lease for a clinic in the community health center and acceptance of funding for the renovation of the clinic.

The council will also discuss intervention strategies during winter and inclement weather for homeless homeless people.
