School Safety, Council Rock Community Forum Safety Topic
NEWTOWN, Pennsylvania – Council Rock School District will be hosting the first in a series of monthly community forums on Wednesday, August 10 from 7-8 p.m. at Newtown Middle School Auditorium, 116 Richboro-Newtown Road, Newtown 18940.
The series will begin with the topic of school safety and security, a hot topic across the country in the wake of the elementary school shooting and massacre in Uvalde, Texas.
Superintendent Dr. Andrew J. Sanko will join representatives from local police departments, emergency responders and staff to discuss Council Rock’s practices for keeping its schools safe.
“During Superintendent’s research, the community ranked safety and security as the top priority, which is one of the reasons we’ll be starting our community forums with this topic,” Sanko said.
During his introduction to the community as superintendent, Sanko said the district will continue its very close relationship with its first responders to keep schools and buildings safe.
“We have monthly threat assessment meetings with our law enforcement partners. We have open lines of communication with all of our first responders…We regularly go through a rigorous series of assessments of our facilities and our systems We examine external possibilities and internal threats.
“We will continue to have this strong working relationship with our police departments,” Sanko said. “We will continue to listen, listen, listen to our first responders when they tell us about hotspots and we will continue to work with those around us who are the experts. This also means updating of our security functions.”
