Progressive Health Forum welcomes decision to close quarantine sites – SABC News
The Progressive Health Forum has welcomed the recent decision by the Department of Health to shut down quarantine sites and stop contact tracing for coronavirus cases.
The ministry says this decision is informed by the realization that they no longer have an impact.
Any COVID-19 quarantine must be stopped with immediate effect. This applies to both vaccinated and unvaccinated contacts, according to a statement released by the Department of Health on Friday titled: Review of Contact Tracing, Quarantine and Isolation Protocols.
They say the revisions were accepted based on the COVID-19 advisories. Contact tracing will also be stopped with immediate effect, except in the event of a cluster outbreak.
Forum chair Dr Aslam Dasoo said the decision made perfect sense, given the state of the pandemic.
Dasoo says, “Our testing rate is demand driven, it doesn’t detect all cases in society, the general population, and so if you only test those you test and maybe to track their contacts, you are missing thousands of people by a multiple of 7 in terms of both positive reported cases and what may exist. So overall this is a very logical step.
