Maryland nears the finish line

Days after lawmakers struck a deal that restore a cap on the number of mobile licenses available statewide, the Maryland House and Senate are poised to pass a bill establishing a framework for sports betting on the last day of the 2021 General Assembly session. The bill caps the number of mobile licenses in Maryland at 10, which are tied to existing gaming facilities, in addition to allowing 30 retail facilities solely for sports betting. The bill is due to pass both the House and the Senate on Monday before being sent to Gov. Larry Hogan’s office for his signature.

MARYLAND:

The bill allows 10 “Class A” licenses for retail and mobile betting attached to certain facilities (capped) and 30 retail-only licenses.

The vote should take place today.https://t.co/7Kg0SZb143

Florida Gambling Bill Trio

On Monday, a Florida State Senate committee is scheduled to consider three bills related to gaming modernization in the Sunshine State. The bills, SB 7076, SB 7078, and SB 7080, are seeking to create a new gaming commission while decoupling jai-alai and live racing from the majority of gaming venues in the state. While none of the bills contain language on sports betting, the continued horse trading on gambling initiatives could provide impetus for a separate mobile and retail sports betting bill before the end of 2019. the legislative session at the end of this month.

Word from major stakeholders is that we could see a sports betting bill emerge in Florida before the end of the month.

This is despite the absence of sports betting in last week’s Florida gambling bills.

Tennessee hearing on payday loan restrictions

A Tennessee the subcommittee may consider a bill that prohibits a sports betting operator from allowing a customer to place a bet at the same place where the person has also entered into a “flexible loan plan”. Under the bill, similar restrictions are in place for customers who enter into a deferred presentation services agreement, a check cashing transaction or a pledge of title agreement. More likely to move is another move that would transfer regulatory authority from the incumbent, the Tennessee Education Lottery Corp., and transfer it to the nine-member Sports Betting Advisory Board.

A public hearing at the Texas House State Affairs Committee will focus on a bill to grant sports betting operator licenses to all professional sports franchises in the state. Over the past few months, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban have been among a group of owners who have recommended for the legalization of sports betting in texas. Musgrove seeks recall after no-hitter

Five days after pitching the first no-hitter in San Diego Padres history, Joe Musgrove returns to the hill Wednesday night against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Through two starts, Musgrove has 18 strikeouts without giving up a single earned run. In the annals of Major League Baseball history, only one pitcher has pitched no-hitters in consecutive regular season games. In 1938, former Reds pitcher Johnny Vander Meer accomplished the feat against the Brooklyn Dodgers, four days after throwing a no-hitter against the Boston Bees. The least might be the play. In eight games, the inexperienced Pirates ranked 11th out of 15 National League teams in hitting with a .212 batting average.

I predict that today, April 9, 2021, Joe Musgrove will throw the first batting pitch by a San Diego Padres pitcher in franchise history. pic.twitter.com/gSuHmpyaPW
