Jordanian Women Parliamentarians Forum holds workshop on RCGS recommendations
A workshop organized by the Forum of Jordanian Women Parliamentarians to discuss the results of the Royal Committee for the Modernization of the Political System (RCMPS) concluded on Saturday.
Organized in cooperation with the National Democratic Institute of Petra, the three-day event was attended by RCMP member Reem Abu Hassan, Jordanian news agency Petra reported.
Mayada Al Shreim, chair of the forum, said that for three days the main findings and recommendations of the committee were discussed, including those related to the empowerment of women and youth.
The forum made a series of recommendations on women’s empowerment, including amending the second chapter of the Jordanian constitution, according to Petra.
The amendments aim to change the wording to “rights and duties of Jordanians women and men” from the old “Rights and duties of Jordanians,” she added.
The recommendations, according to Shreim, also included amendments to the electoral law, related to removing the resignation requirement for female and male employees wishing to run for office, to be replaced by submitting a request for unpaid leave, to be done at least 90 days before the date of the election.
