Icarus has a few notable currencies that can be used in the Orbital Workshop. This menu contains a plethora of unlockable tools that can be used in future runs. here is our Icarus guide to help you get the Orbital Workshop currency and whether or not you can receive rewards if you play offline.

Icarus Guide: Obtaining Gold Currency and Purple Currency for the Workshop

In general, the Prospect missions in Icarus provide the gold currency (ie the “R” symbol) at the end. You can click on a mission and, besides the description, you will see how much you can acquire. Here are some examples:

To note: I do not yet know how or where the purple currency is obtained. My character is only level 25 and I have yet to see any missions offering this type of reward.

Either way, you can complete the objectives listed there and return to the delivery ship to escape the planet. After completing your run, take a look at the character screen or the workshop screen. You should see a mail icon in the upper right corner of your HUD. Click on it to see a letter congratulating you on completing the mission. It also contains the workshop credits you need.

Here’s the kicker: you can only earn gold in Icarus if you are playing online (i.e. in Play mode in the main menu). You can still play solo if you want to, but you have to complete missions online.

As for the other modes:

• Outposts – This is a sandbox mode with no session timer. You can just let your creativity run wild building massive foundations and enjoying the scenery. Although you do earn XP, there are no missions here and no coins for obtaining at all.
• Offline – At the moment we know there is a bug that is preventing people from receiving gold in Icarus if they are playing offline. This was confirmed by Dean Hall / Rocket2Gunz in a Steam forum comment seen in the image below.

At this time, we don’t know when a fix will arrive. So if you’ve already progressed with your character while playing offline, your only recourse is to go online, which means starting from scratch on a new character.
