Google’s in-house SEO experts host SEO workshop

David Mihm highlighted on Twitter that Google is hosting a partner workshop titled “Drive Traffic to Your Website with SEO”. What’s interesting is that the workshop says it’s “hosted by one of Google’s in-house SEO experts, this workshop will give you a behind-the-scenes look at how Google approaches SEO for its own sites. “.

This is a 100% partner program with Google, but the problem some have with this is that an in-house SEO at Google speaks at this event.

To me, it doesn’t look like this: “Hosted by one of Google’s in-house SEO experts, this workshop will give you a behind-the-scenes look at how Google approaches SEO for its own sites.”

But after signing up, I received a confirmation from “Grow with Google Partners” with the Google Partner Program logo in the confirmation email.

Yes, Google has an in-house SEO team, it’s no secret. In fact, Google has stated that its internal search teams are stricter with their internal SEO teams than with external SEOs. Google also said it doesn’t give preferential treatment to its in-house SEO team.

Here are some of the concerns about this, with Google’s John Mueller responding:

What I find interesting is that Google explicitly presents SEO information under a partner. Googlers @Localuniv were always very cautious about “SEO advice”.

Also concerned that what works for “internal SEO on Google sites” may not be realistic for SMBs.

For example, we have also featured events organized by third parties, even when it comes to SEO providers/tools. It’s not a sign that we specifically recommend them, it’s more of someone hosting a public event (which is a lot of work).

I don’t think most will have any concerns about G giving SEO advice.

This is when additional parties are linked to it – and if they then try to spin/cash/cash in on that
(“we have a relationship with…”).

Don’t forget the “cheap site + domain” thing,
worked more expensive?

Here is a screenshot of the event:

I actually signed up and confirmed that I would be attending – I’ll do my best to listen and let you know if I find anything out of the norm that’s unfair or whatever.
