The House of Representatives APC former members’ forum applauded the Interim Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) for withdrawing the proposed amendment to the party’s constitution to prevent them from participating as delegates members at the next national convention

Former lawmakers who were reacting to recent reports that the party planned to remove them as statutory delegates ahead of the national convention declared their unwavering loyalty to the party leadership, saying the decision to withdraw the proposed amendment from the constitution of the APC was well thought out. .

However, the forum expressed concern that the party leadership did not consult them before the decision to change the APC constitution was taken.

In a statement signed by its interim chairman, the Honorable Ibrahim Zailani, the forum said members were pleased to see the national newspaper infomercial signed by CECPC National Secretary, Senator John James Akpanudoedehe, confirming the withdrawal of the party’s proposed amendment. Constitution.

Zailani said the reason given by the CECPC for the proposed withdrawal of former members and serving members of the National Assembly from the national convention, which was described as an inadvertent omission, was also noted by the Forum. .

The forum, however, expressed dismay that it was ignored in the consultations leading to the decision to make even the necessary changes to the constitution.

As a result, former members of the National Assembly have advised the party leadership to exercise due diligence before highly sensitive posts such as this are made public.

They said: “Yes, we are glad that the party leadership did the necessary by quickly rectifying a mistake that could have had unimaginable consequences for the stability of the APC. The truth must be told that such an unintentional mistake that has overheated the party space for the past few days could have been avoided if careful consideration and due diligence had been applied by the officers involved. For us, this kind of scenario must clearly be avoided in the future.

“As an organ of the major stakeholders of our great party, the APC, we are following with keen interest the events leading up to the National Convention and the presidential primaries as they unfold!

“We hereby reiterate our call to the party leadership that as a progressive entity, it is incumbent upon our party to lead the way in espousing progressive ideologies chief among which is the institutionalization of internal democracy. unless it would mean nothing good for the unity and progress of our party. In the meantime, we place our wholehearted loyalty and support to the CECPC and the party,” they said.
