Ekurhuleni committee pledges to fight drug addiction – Germiston City News
SANCA’s Drug Awareness Week was held June 20-26, with the last day being the International Day Against Drug Abuse.

The week aims to work towards an international society free of drug addiction.
In April, the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) launched the Local Drug Action Committee (LDAC).
Section 60 of the Drug Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act No. 70 of 2008 states that a municipality shall establish an LDAC to represent the municipality in the Provincial Addiction Forum and give effect to the Provincial Addiction Master Plan .
CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini said the committee has been conducting trainings since its enthronement.
“There were workshops on drug abuse prevention and treatment, the National Drug Control Master Plan 2019 to 2024 and the GCR Drug Control Strategy to equip the committee as it prepares for developing its drug master plan,” says Dlamini.
The committee’s vision for the city is to create a city without addiction.

Dlamini said that the LDAC will coordinate and report on activities implemented by stakeholders from different government departments, the private sector and NGOs aimed at combating drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking.
The LDAC, composed of 26 members, is mainly a coordination structure that will coordinate and report on the activities implemented by the actors of the various actors.
