Koraput: A two-day international workshop was organized by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Odisha Central University, for PG students and researchers, on December 14-15, 2021. The workshop was held was inaugurated by Professor SK Palita, Vice-Chancellor I / C, CUO in the presence of the visiting professors of the department, Professor Akshay Rout and Professor Sunil Kanta Behera. Dr Pradosh Kr Rath, Chief I / C and Chairman, welcomed the guests to the podium. Professor Palita in his inaugural address stressed the importance of organizing regular activities in the department to make students competent and employable. Dr Sourav Gupta, Assistant Professor, DJMC and organizer of the international workshop explained that the purpose of organizing the workshop was to expose students and researchers to the latest concepts and recent trends in communication research and at a pinch associated with quality research. Dr Gupta thanked Professor SK Palita for being the inspiration behind the workshop. Prof. Akshay Rout and Prof. SK Behera wished the workshop great success and said it was a good decision of the department to have a workshop of this magnitude with eminent resource people. Dr Sony Parhi, Faculty, DJMC proposed the Vote of Thanks for the inaugural session.
On December 14, 2021, Professor Srinivas R Melkote, Professor Emeritus, School of Media and Communication, Bowling Green State University, Ohio participated in a session on Quantitative and Qualitative Paradigms of Research, followed by a session by Professor Vinod Pavarala, former dean and head of the department. of Communication, SN School and UNESCO Chair in Community Media, University of Hyderabad on Research Theory-Based Approach. On the 15th, the following day of the workshop, Prof. Biswajit Das, Founding Director, Center for Culture, Media and Governance, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi delivered a talk titled Imagining Research and Prof. Mohan J Dutta, Dean of the Chair, Professor and Director, CARE, Massey University, New Zealand spoke about the culture-centered approach. All sessions included a comprehensive interactive session between resource persons, faculty members and students.
The farewell speech was delivered by Professor KG Suresh, Honorable Vice Chancellor, National University of Journalism and Communication Makhan Lal Chaturvedi, Bhopal on December 15, 2021. Professor Suresh highlighted the importance of research and the state of media studies in India and emphasized maintaining the quality of research. He called on researchers to think beyond the convention. Professor SK Palita, Vice Chancellor I / C, CUO proposed a collaborative effort between CUO and MCNUJ & C, Bhopal to improve the discipline. Professor Akshay Rout expressed his gratitude to all faculty members as well as resource persons and also encouraged students to do research in the future. Prof. SK Behera expressed satisfaction with the quality and process of the workshop and congratulated the department.
Dr. Sourav Gupta, Assistant Professor, DJMC and organizer of the international workshop reported that the sessions were informative and the students had a forum to interact with the pillars of the discipline, which was a highlight of the workshop. . He also informed that an electronic report of the workshop will be published shortly. Dr. PK Rath, I / C Leader, DJMC moved the vote of thanks and thanked the CUO administration and resource persons for their active support. Certificates of participation were distributed to the students for their active participation.
The workshop was run in a mixed mode using smart classroom equipment and was facilitated by an IT support team led by Dr Jyotiska Dutta, I / C Manager, Dep’t of Mathematics.
