Tensions were high at a Community forum hosted by the Boynton Beach Police Department Thursday night.
It took place following an FHP investigation that cleared a cop of any wrongdoing in the death of a black teenager who crashed his dirt bike while being chased by a white police officer.
Bryce Graham spoke on behalf of the family of Stanley Davis III.
“My reaction is wow! You come out and say a 13 year old caused his own death. How come when a police officer conducted an illegal police chase.”
An African American woman spoke of a lack of trust in the police.
“I don’t even commit a crime and when the police are behind me I feel like my blood pressure is at a thousand.”
The police department’s Internal Affairs Division is now investigating whether the officer violated any policies when he lashed out at Davis, who was driving recklessly at about 85 miles per hour on Boxing Day.
Chef Michael Gregory has pledged to remain transparent.
“You can see we’re here. We’re going to stay here. We’re ready to listen and we’re ready to change if there’s something wrong.”
The Davis family retained Ben Crump’s law firm and notified the city of their intention to sue.
