Community forum discusses parking lot updates
Cerritos College plans to continue improving parking at the corner of 166th Street and Studebaker. Aesthetic and safety improvements have been made to the area previously.
The College hosted a forum on December 5th for the college community of Cerritos to come forward and provide College representatives with feedback on the changes that have been made.
The lot funded a total income of $ 275,000.
These funds have been used to fund student programs such as the Study Abroad Program (TEEP) and the Cerritos Complete program.
âThe study abroad program has not been in effect for two summers, but we plan to open it and reinstate this program. [with these funds]. “said Felipe Lopez, vice president of business services.
This car park can be used from Monday to Sunday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The entrance to the field will be accessible from the east gate of the campus, which connects to parking lot 10. Lopez said.
âAccess is only through or between the purchasing building and the CDC, you must access the lot from lot 10 because there is no direct access to the lot. “
Once the college was granted a temporary permit, changes were made including: adding asphalt, installing vertical green slats along the perimeter of the fence, trumpet vines, and irrigation.
The sidewalk was replaced along 166th Street and 10 old trees were removed and replaced with aristocratic pear trees.
Security cameras have been installed to secure and monitor the grounds.
The college police department is also investigating this area, including it in their regular rotation, addressing any potential security concerns at the college.
Improvements to lighting fixtures, installation of fixtures to match lot 10 color standards, vertical screens to direct sunlight downwards, dimmable light fixtures and previously illuminated adjustment agreed on the site not to exceed 1.03 foot candle.
âWe are required to provide a choir update forum for getting feedback and feedback from community members regarding the corner lot on 166th and Studebaker,â Lopez said.
The city of Cerritos granted the college authorization for parking on December 18, 2017 and fulfilled all the requirements specified in the temporary use permit of March 9, 2018.
The temporary use permit began in 2017 and ends on December 18, 2021.
An application for another temporary use permit has been completed and residents of the community will continue to have access to the lot until December 19, 2026.
Meetings regarding parking will be held annually instead of quarterly.
Meetings will likely take place on the first Monday in December.
Miya Walker, Director of College Relations, and Felipe Lopez gave attendees their contact details so the community has an opportunity to voice any concerns they may have about the parking lot.
