Appointments of new IUMI President and Executive Committee
The Board of the International Marine Insurance Union (IUMI) has appointed a new President and Vice President as well as new members of the Executive Committee and Nominating Committee for 2022/23.
Frédéric Denèfle, managing director of the French maritime war risk specialist GAREX, has been appointed president, supported by a vice-president, Kosuke Hashimoto of Japan and managing director of maritime underwriting at Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance. The role of Vice President is a new position.
The current president, Richard Turner, resigned after completing his four-year term.
Frederic Denèfle said:
“These are challenging times for the marine insurance industry as we tackle decarbonization issues, economic and geopolitical uncertainties and digital transformation. IUMI plays a critical role in representing the industry and I look forward to continuing the work of my predecessors, but no organization can afford to stand still and IUMI is currently considering its long-term future under the IUMI 2030 banner, with detailed work already underway.
The President of IUMI is Chairman of the Council and Executive Committee of IUMI and presides over all meetings of IUMI.
The IUMI Council meets once a year and includes Council members from 41 National Member Associations. The Council decides on the finances and audits of the IUMI and elects the members of the Executive Committee and the Nominating Committee.
The Executive Committee is responsible for the administration and management of the IUMI in accordance with the general policy determined by the Council. The Executive Committee appoints the Secretary General and has the right to facilitate the formation of Representative Forums.
