APC Convention: Buni committee accuses governors and stakeholders of delay

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Interim Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee under the leadership of Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni does not appear to be shaken by the commotion for the party’s national convention in the planned date of February.
A senior member of the APC CECPC told the Nigerian Tribune confidently that the team would not be in a rush to hold a national convention, despite the allegation of an extension plot against it.
The Director General of the Forum of Governors on the platform of the party, Salihu Lukman, in a letter to the governor of Kebbi State and President of the Forum of progressive governors, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, called for the impeachment of May Mala Buni and Senator John James Akpanudoedehe as President and National Secretary respectively of the direction interim party.
Speaking on Tuesday in Abuja at a summit hosted by a group, the APC Stakeholder Summit, on the theme “Rebuilding the CPA of our Dream,” the Director General of the Progressive Governors Forum reiterated his lack of confidence in the leadership of the APC CECPC as he accused the duo of Governor Buni and Senator Akpanudoedehe of incompetence and lack of sincerity in the conduct of the national convention.
Nigerian Tribune verifications revealed that a PGF meeting could be held today (Wednesday) to take a position on the date of the convention ahead of a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.
Contrary to expectations of a meeting of the warden led by Governor Buni, the senior member of the team told the Nigerian Tribune that no meeting was scheduled for today.
He said the leadership commitment was not in doubt as he announced last December his intention to create pre-convention subcommittees for the election of substantial national leaders.
He said, “What meeting are you talking about? We’re not having a meeting. It is the governors who meet. We will not call a meeting because the governors want to meet. We will not be trapped.
“Whenever we have reasons to move the date of the convention, it is at the request of the stakeholders, in particular the governors.
“We are not going to start meddling with the issues with the aggrieved leaders. We were appointed, not elected.
“All the speeches about Governor Buni seeking re-election as president or vice-president of a presidential candidate are false. But as I said, we will not allow aggrieved leaders to drag us into public space.
Reacting to doubt over his ability to meet a timeline for the convention since the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had not yet been notified, the source expressed confidence that the convention will run as planned.
“We are not yet in February and we still have enough time to give INEC the statutory 21 days. Look, he said.
Also speaking at the summit held at the Musa Yar’Adua International Conference Center, Abuja, aspirant Sylvester Monidafe warned party members to be wary of imposing an anointed candidate under cover of a deal consensual.
He called on the gathering of party supporters to prepare to resist the alleged plot.
He said, “We will resist consensus. People shouldn’t sit in one place and say they supported a candidate. No, we will not take it and I hope the young people will not take it.
“We are not fighting anybody; we want a better Nigeria and that is how we will ensure a stronger Nigeria.
In his own remarks, fellow presidential contender Salihu Mustapha called on CPA leaders to be patient and give Governor Buni’s committee the benefit of the doubt, having committed to a convention date. .
He further warned of a media war that could make the ruling party the laughing stock of its main rival, the People’s Democratic Party.
In his message of goodwill, another presidential candidate and senator representing Niger-East, Sani Musa, pledged to reposition the ruling party before the next general elections.
“As we approach another electoral cycle, we must not allow our nation to regress. I am presenting myself to consolidate our economic transformation.
